Mrs. Franco joined the CCTA staff in June 2012 as the Young Columbians Parent Liaison, Theatre Instructor and Camp Counselor, and became Managing Director in February 2014.

Alex began her relationship with CCTA at the young age of 7, when she started taking classes under the direction of Toby Orenstein. She tells people that her claim to fame was sharing a toy box with Oscar–nominated actor, Edward Norton in a production of Mary Poppins. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature from Brown University, while continuing to study theatre and perform in musical productions. She also served as the Musical Director and a vocalist for the "Chattertocks", an Acappella singing group. She went on to receive her law degree from Brigham Young University, receiving a Scholarly Writing Award, and working as a contributor and editor for the Utah State Juvenile Court

Returning to Maryland, she worked for The Law Offices of Deborah Steelman as a lobbyist in
healthcare in Washington, D.C., before staying home to raise her four sons. Throughout those years, she volunteered in many capacities for various school, church and nonprofit organizations. Because of the tremendous impact CCTA had on her life and the life of her sons, she returned to her roots and her true passion.

She is thrilled to take on the role of Managing Director and to be lobbying for a cause she truly believes in--that an arts education benefits the whole child and should be accessible to every child. In her current capacity, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, promoting active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work and ensuring compliance with government regulations. She oversees efforts to publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals. Perhaps the most important part of her job is to establish working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations, and represent CCTA to agencies, funders and the general public.
